Interview With Author Hillary Dunkley-Campbell
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am Hillary Dunkley-Campbell, an ambassador for Jesus Christ, a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a bestselling author of four impactful books, including “I Am Encouraged,” “What Is Stopping You?” “Speak the Word,” and “Jesus Saves: The Free Gift of Salvation.” A Kingdom Empowerment Speaker, a Certified Christian Coach, and the founder of Hillary Encourages, a voice of encouragement to the nations. The Lord has entrusted me with an assignment to encourage His people.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
In my book “What Is Stopping You?”, I delve into the barriers that prevent us from pursuing our dreams—self-doubt, fear, procrastination, and the heavy influence of others’ opinions. These challenges can feel overwhelming, but this book offers a beacon of hope. With practical strategies, I empower readers to face these obstacles head-on.
My inspiration for writing this book stemmed from a deep desire to help readers break free from the constraints that hold them back. I want to guide them in taking meaningful steps toward the lives they aspire to lead. My hope is that this book ignites a spark within readers, inspiring them to confront what limits them and unleash their full potential.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write early in the morning when the world is calm and quiet. During this serene time, I find myself more prayerful and open to the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. There are moments when I sit down with uncertainty about what to write, yet in those stillness-filled moments, He guides me and fills my mind with ideas. This sacred time of reflection and connection fuels my creativity, allowing my writing to flow.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Some of the most influential books in my journey include Dr. Myles Munroe’s “In the Pursuit of Purpose,” which profoundly shaped my understanding of purpose and destiny; David J. Schwartz’s “The Magic of Thinking Big,” which inspired me to expand my vision and embrace a mindset of abundance; and my mentor Rev. Leostone Morrison’s “Mind Renewal: Biblical Secrets for a Better You,” which provided invaluable insights into transforming thoughts for personal growth. Additionally, Joyce Meyer’s “Battlefield of the Mind” has been pivotal in teaching me how to navigate the challenges of negativity and doubt. Each of these works has left a lasting impact, guiding me toward a deeper understanding of my potential and purpose.
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on my latest book, “From Self-Doubt to Empowered Woman.” In this book, I focus on guiding women who grapple with self-doubt and fear, offering them practical tools and strategies to foster empowerment. My goal is to inspire and equip them to overcome obstacles, embrace their strengths, and step confidently into their true potential. Through relatable insights and actionable advice, I aim to create a roadmap that helps women transform their lives and thrive with renewed self-assurance.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My primary methods for promoting my books include leveraging my social media platforms, where I actively engage with my audience and share insights about my work. Additionally, I maximize opportunities at my conferences to connect with attendees and discuss my books in a meaningful way. Word of mouth is also a powerful tool, as I encourage readers to share their experiences with others. Finally, participating in book events allows me to showcase my work and connect directly with readers. Together, these strategies create a robust approach to reaching and inspiring my audience.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Here’s a more concise version:
Establishing a writing routine is crucial for authors. Set aside dedicated time each day or week to write, even if it’s brief, as this builds momentum and keeps you engaged. Embrace the editing process, remembering that writing is rewriting; be open to revising your work and seek feedback from trusted beta readers to strengthen your manuscript. Additionally, start building your author platform early by engaging with potential readers through social media, blogs, or newsletters. This not only connects you with your audience but also fosters a supportive community for your work upon publication. Lastly, remember that every author’s journey is unique, so be patient with yourself and enjoy the process!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
No one can believe in you for you; that belief must come from within.
What are you reading now?
The magic of thinking Big – David J. Schwartz.
How successful people think John C. Maxwell
What’s next for you as a writer?
I am currently working on my next book while also focusing on speaking engagements and marketing my existing books. These activities allow me to connect with a broader audience and share my message. Speaking engagements inspire others, while my marketing efforts help increase the visibility of my work. Balancing writing with these promotional activities is key to my growth as an author.
