Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi, I’m an author of fantasy, romance, & horror novels.
I was born and raised in the Memphis area, and I have three kids, two pets, and one husband. I’ve got a BS in Biomedical Engineering and an MBA from the University of Memphis plus I’m pursuing a Masters of Liberal Arts in Creative Writing from Harvard. I love knitting, yoga, wine, video games, reading, board games, baking, and traveling. I’m awful at social media and answering phone calls, but I have a knack for getting people to tell her their darkest secrets and deepest desires.
I’ve written five books so far. Two are available to buy now – The Girls From The Arch Guild and Johnny’s Hugs. Two will be available to preorder soon – Hummingbird and Go To Hell. You can read the first draft of these on Kindle Vella today. One is a secret passion project that I bet you wish you knew all about.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Coming soon in May 2022 is Hummingbird, a time travel fantasy adventure story about a girl who discovers she has the innate ability to weave the fabric of time and space just like her mother who disappeared several years ago. I wrote this tale to combine three of my favorite worlds – Doctor Who, Pirates of the Caribbean, and the Witcher.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to spend most of my writing time organizing my spreadsheet planners instead of actually writing…
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Mary Higgins Clark, Stephen King, Margaret Atwood, and Madeleine L’Engle are my idols.
What are you working on now?
Currently drafting live via Kindle Vella is Go To Hell, a dystopian paranormal horror story about a woman who gets sent to Heaven when she dies only to discover that Heaven isn’t the paradise she expected. Now she must go to hell to rest in peace. I’m writing this tale as the result of the thought experiment – What if it turned out that Heaven actually sucks? Where would you go?
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Check out my Facebook page @booksbyholli and my Instagram @hollijcox for the latest info on my books!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just do it. You may never feel like it’s good enough, but it is!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Nothing to it but to do it.
What are you reading now?
Just finished Verity by Colleen Hoover. 5/5 – it is 100% worth the hype.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Just looking to write more books and reach more readers.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand, The Complete Collection of Sherlock Holmes, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
