Interview With Author Hunter Blackwell
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hello, I’m Hunter Blackwell, an up-and-coming author of science fiction novels. I’m relatively new to the scene, but I’m passionate about exploring the ethical implications of scientific advancements in my writing. So far, I’ve written three books, each of which delves into a different aspect of science and technology. My books have been praised for their unique premises, engaging characters, and thought-provoking themes. I’m excited to continue honing my craft and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in science fiction.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my latest book is “The Journal of Dr. Schmidt”. The inspiration for this book came from two main sources. Firstly, I’ve always been fascinated by the Bigfoot mythos and the idea of undiscovered creatures roaming the earth. Secondly, I’ve been intrigued by the stories of the bizarre and unethical scientific research conducted by the Nazis during World War II. I wanted to explore what would happen if these two elements were combined, and the result is a thrilling and unsettling tale of scientific experimentation gone wrong. “The Journal of Dr. Schmidt” follows a young scientist who discovers a hidden journal detailing the experiments of a Nazi scientist who was obsessed with creating a new breed of super-soldiers. As she delves deeper into the journal, she uncovers a dark conspiracy and a terrifying creature that threatens to destroy everything she knows.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
No, I don’t have any unusual writing habits. I prefer to write in a quiet and comfortable space, usually with a cup of coffee or tea by my side. I also like to write in short bursts, taking breaks every hour or so to stretch and clear my mind. I believe that it’s important to find a routine that works for you and stick to it, as this can help to improve productivity and creativity.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
There are many authors and books that have influenced me over the years. One of my earliest influences was Stephen King, whose horror and suspense novels captivated me as a teenager. I also admire the works of Ray Bradbury, George Orwell, and Aldous Huxley, who all explore the darker side of human nature and the consequences of scientific advancements.
What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on a space opera novel that follows the adventures of a starship captain who finds herself in over her head when she stumbles upon a galactic conspiracy. In order to expose the truth and take down the evil villain behind it all, she must team up with a mercenary who has her own agenda.
Together, they navigate a dangerous galaxy filled with political intrigue, space battles, and unexpected alliances. Along the way, they discover that the conspiracy runs deeper than they ever imagined, and that the fate of the entire galaxy rests in their hands.
I’m really enjoying exploring the world of space opera and creating complex characters who must navigate difficult moral dilemmas. It’s been a fun challenge to balance the action and adventure with deeper themes, and I can’t wait to see where the story takes me.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’ve had a lot of success with this website! Awesome Gang! It’s a platform that connects authors with readers, and it offers a variety of promotional services to help authors get their books in front of new audiences.
What I love about Awesome Gang is that it’s really easy to use and it offers a lot of value for the price. I’ve used their promotional services and have always been impressed with the results.
Another thing I appreciate about Awesome Gang is that they have a supportive community of authors and readers. They offer a lot of resources and advice for authors, and they really care about helping authors succeed.
Overall, I would highly recommend Awesome Gang to any author looking to promote their books and connect with new readers.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yes, I do have some advice for new authors!
First and foremost, I would say that the most important thing is to write. It might sound obvious, but a lot of aspiring authors get caught up in the idea of writing and never actually put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard). So make a schedule, set some goals, and stick to them.
Secondly, I would say that it’s important to be open to feedback. Writing can be a very personal and emotional process, and it can be hard to hear criticism of your work. But constructive feedback is one of the best ways to improve as a writer, so seek out beta readers, writing groups, or professional editors who can give you honest and helpful feedback.
Thirdly, I would say that it’s important to be persistent. The publishing industry can be tough, and rejection is a common part of the process. But don’t let it discourage you. Keep writing, keep improving, and keep submitting your work.
Finally, I would say that it’s important to be true to yourself. Write the stories that you’re passionate about, and don’t be afraid to take risks or push boundaries. The most successful and memorable authors are the ones who have a unique voice and vision, so don’t be afraid to embrace yours.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
That’s a great question! I’ve heard a lot of great advice over the years, but one piece of advice that has really stuck with me is to “write the book you want to read.”
As a writer, it can be easy to get caught up in what you think other people want to read, or what’s currently popular in the market. But at the end of the day, the best writing comes from a place of passion and authenticity. So rather than trying to write for someone else, focus on writing the story that excites you, the one that you can’t wait to read.
Not only will this make the writing process more enjoyable, but it will also make your writing more compelling and authentic. Readers can tell when an author is passionate about their work, and that passion is contagious. So write the book you want to read, and trust that there are readers out there who will love it just as much as you do.
What are you reading now?
Right now, I’m reading “The Calculating Stars” by Mary Robinette Kowal. It’s a science fiction novel set in an alternate history where a meteorite strikes Earth in the 1950s, accelerating the space race and prompting women to become astronauts. The book follows Elma York, a mathematician and pilot, as she fights for her place in the space program and navigates the challenges of being a woman in a male-dominated field.
I’m really enjoying the book so far. It’s a fascinating exploration of gender roles, politics, and science, and it’s also a really engaging and suspenseful story. I’m excited to see where it goes!
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m currently exploring more ideas in the space opera genre, with a particular interest in creating an ongoing series that pushes the boundaries of traditional sci-fi. I envision a series that has a more adult or erotic flare to it, with complex characters and relationships that evolve over time.
One thing that’s important to me is that the story elements have lasting consequences. I don’t want to hit the “reset button” at the end of each book, but rather have the characters’ actions and decisions shape the future of the universe. This means that the stakes will be high, and the consequences of failure could be catastrophic.
Overall, I’m excited to dive deeper into the space opera genre and create a series that’s both thrilling and thought-provoking. I want to challenge myself as a writer and push the boundaries of what’s possible in sci-fi, while still delivering a compelling and entertaining story for readers.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
That’s a great question! If I were going to be stranded on a desert island and could only bring three or four books, I would probably choose:
“The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” by Douglas Adams – This book never fails to make me laugh, and I think it would be a great way to keep my spirits up in a difficult situation.
“The Martian” by Andy Weir – This book is a thrilling survival story set on Mars, and I think it would be a great way to escape from the reality of being stranded on a desert island.
“The Complete Sherlock Holmes” by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle – I love a good mystery, and this collection of stories would provide endless hours of entertainment.
“The Joy of Sex” by Alex Comfort – While it might seem like an unusual choice for a desert island, I think it would be a fun and entertaining way to pass the time. Plus, it could come in handy if I ever encountered any fellow castaways!
Overall, I think these books would provide a good mix of humor, adventure, mystery, and entertainment to keep me occupied on a desert island.
