About I Am an Empowered Parent!: Creating the Best Education Experience for My Learning Different Child by Lynda Allen
Raising a child who learns differently—whether a little or a lot—can feel overwhelming. But you are not helpless, nor are you powerless.
In I Am an Empowered Parent!: Creating the Best Education Experience for Your Learning Different Child, lifelong educator and advocate Lynda Sloan Allen draws on five decades of experience to guide you toward confidence, clarity, and courage in your parenting journey. With heart, hope, and practical wisdom, this book equips you to become the leader your child needs in both education and life.
Through powerful metaphors, reflection prompts, and step-by-step strategies, you will learn how to:
– Step into your empowered role and create meaningful change for your child
– Recognize and celebrate your child’s unique strengths, abilities, and talents
– Build a strong “village” of support for your child, yourself, and your family
– Advocate boldly and effectively for your child’s rights, needs, and choices
– Create your child’s Best Education Experience (BEE)
Like the growth of a tree—rooted, growing, and flourishing—your journey as a parent unfolds in stages, just as your child does. Once you feel confident in understanding what your child needs to succeed, you’ll move through four empowering steps equipped with encouragement, tools, and perspective to help your child thrive in school and in life.
This book is more than a guide. It is part of a growing movement of parents worldwide who are building a more supportive and inclusive world for all our children. You will discover that you are not alone. There are countless resources and supportive individuals ready to join you, because it truly takes a village to raise a child.

Author Bio:
My passion to become a teacher and make a difference for people who are “born with differences” began in my early teens.
I started by volunteering 5000+ hours at community programs, which looked great on my resume. I then earned both a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree, in Elementary and Exceptional Student Education, from the University of Miami (1973-1977), becoming one of the first Special Education teachers in FL and one of the first Early Intervention Specialists in the nation.
For five decades now, I have worked with non-profits, for-profits, government, and my own businesses, serving children and families in most every capacity. From case management at Big Brothers/Big Sisters, to assistant director of a Sheltered Workshop for Adults, being a community trainer/mentor for the U.S. Department of Education’s Drug-Free Schools and Communities Program, and even as the first Resource Development Specialist for a Children’s Services Council.
For the past two decades, I have loved being a Learning Specialist at my Make Your Mark in Life Learning Center in Vero Beach, FL, where I supported many hundreds of students, helping them to learn better as they focused on their unique strengths, interests, talents, and goals. This has led to my final (maybe) passion project: Empowered Parents Creating the
Best Education Experience for their Learning Different Child.
