I Am Protected follows Lucas, a boy who is on a camping trip with friends in the woods. After he awakes from a bad nightmare, Lucas meets Papa Wolf. Papa teaches Lucas a coping strategy he can use to feel safe when he is scared. As the book progresses, Lucas encounters more challenges that he navigates with the help of another calming practice from Papa Wolf.

Author Bio:
Laura Smith holds Masters degrees in Curriculum & Instruction and in Special Education. She spent 13 years as a certified teacher at the elementary level and is an advocate for special education.
“I created ‘A Children’s Mindset Collection’ of books and programs from my own family’s life experiences and difficulties with mental health,” said Smith. “I am passionate about helping as many children as I can face everyday emotional struggles. What started as support for my own grandson, has grown into a world of characters who can help children of all ages learn coping skills for better lives.”
Smith also pulls from her experience as a trauma-informed certified yoga and social emotional learning facilitator.
“There are many programs and techniques for adults to learn mindfulness skills, but I didn’t see them translated for children,” said Smith. “That’s the impetus behind my mission-based business. Bringing calming instruction to help children feel safe and loved is the driving force behind everything I do.”
“I Am Protected” follows five other books filled with stories of characters facing challenges – and their helpful guides who introduce coping techniques.
