About I’m No Superman! Antiheroes in Popular Culture: : Exploring Musical Groups and Artists: 1970’s – 2025 (Volume 5) by Dr. Joseph D. Di Lella
In this book, we examine significant ‘antiheroes’ in the world of music by exploring the lives of influential musicians and popular groups from the mid-1970’s through 2025.
From the 1970’s through the 1980’s, we will look at such famous artists and bands such as Bruce Springsteen, Prince, ABBA, Fleetwood Mac, Blonde, Joan Jett, ZZ Top, Sting, Huey Lewis and the News, Madonna, Michael and Janet Jackson, Metallica and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
In the 1990’s, such solo artists and bands such as Whitney Houston, Eminem, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, R.E.M, Tupac Shakur, Jewel, Daft Punk and Dr. Dre among others will be examined for their important positions in the world of West and East Coast rap, grunge.post punk, electronica and alternative music.
From 2000-2010, we will look into the on-stage and real lives of musicians like Drake, Rihanna, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Maroon 5, Common, Outkast and other prominent people in pop, R&B, and rap.
Lastly, we look at musical artists and groups from 2010-2025 with superstars such as Ed Sheeran, BTS, Billie Eilish, Post Malone, Katy Perry, Bad Bunny, Cardi B and The Weeknd who will be looked at for their contributions in current day music trends.
Antiheroes in the music industry may not be as easy to point out like they are in the movies, TV, ans sports, but they exist if you know how to examine the men and women on a personal and professional basis.
We are not saying that these men and women are bad people doing anything illegal or unethical, but this author simply points out how their music and positions they take on major societal issues make them stand out from the pack.
Finally, if this book motivates you to listen to any of these artists, then this author has accomplished his goal: to show each and every one of my readers the joy of music.
