Interview With Author Inger Brown
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Inger Brown and I am the writer and illustrator for The Bobbling series which is for children.
The Series has around 10 books now with more on the way. I release about one a year.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My New book is called “The Bobbling and The Beanstalk”. I have taken a classic idea and turned it on its head. I think this story is really quite fun, one of the characters “Woo” gets turned into a mermaid and they all find an ocean at the top of the beanstalk. In this ocean The Bobbling finds how to change Woo back to her normal self.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t have any usual writing habits but I do think that being relaxed is quite important.
I tend to write a lot of lists lately of ideas of things I want incorporated into my next story.
I tend to work things like a factory line so while I am illustrating one book I am already starting to put together ideas and writing the story for the next book. Sometimes I write a couple of stories a year and pick the one I am going to do.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Many things influence me. I think inspiration comes from many places. Films, song, books, pictures, going on a walk, talking to people can sometimes even trigger and idea or notion.
I think also looking at books related to your genre is important, so flicking through children’s books, looking at authors even that you enjoyed as a child is helpful.
What are you working on now?
I am currently illustrating another Bobbling book, I am also in the process of writing more stories.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I really have no idea when it comes to promotion. I think for everyone it is very hit and miss. I use social media, but as years have gone on my promotion campaigns have become smaller and shorter.
Unless you are with a big publisher trying to promote your book is very hard, the internet is a beehive with so much good work out there.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
I always say keep going. It is a very easy thing to say but when things actually get difficult it is something that is very hard.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I am continuing to work on more of The Bobbling series.
I created The Bobbling and the world he is in I have created so it is important to me to continue working with him.
