Interview With Author J. Rosemarie Francis
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m the creator and host of two podcasts totaling over 350 episodes, and I have interviewed dozens of guests from across the globe. A mom of 3 sons and a grandmother who uses her extensive experience with trauma to help others.
As a podcast host, I’ve mentored aspiring podcasters and single moms. I’ve written 3 books so far, lived in five countries on two continents, and thoroughly enjoy journaling and writing. Between 2023 and 2024, I read almost 200 books. I was traveling quite a lot and dealing with some stuff. Reading is my ultimate therapy.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Courage to Believe 21 Day Christian Devotional for Single Moms. A move, 900 miles away, to accept a 2-week job, after being abandoned by my then-husband and left to raise our two infants, inspired a draft of a personal story that I consequently rewrote as a devotional. Because, after interviewing and mentoring dozens of single moms, I realized I wasn’t the only one parenting through hurt.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not sure if this is unusual or not, but I like to sit in the park and write. Nice scenery, birds singing, and blue sky with big fluffy clouds inspire me. Another way I love to write is lying on the sand on the beach with my laptop on my stomach while I listen to the ocean and watch the big fluffy clouds dance lazily by. Love those fluffy clouds. lol
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Who Moved My Cheese by Spencer Johnson; Courage is Calling by Ryan Holiday; The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.
What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on the audiobook for Courage to Believe 21 Day Christian Devotional for Single Moms. Also, in the middle of writing the second book in the Daughters of Grace series, a retelling of the stories of single women in the Bible. The first one is Healing Hem: The Minine Miller Story, a retelling of the story of the woman with the issue of blood. Writing this book allowed me to finally work through losing my first son when I was 22 weeks pregnant. Really strange but very therapeutic.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I like to email my subscribers or blog on www.jrosemarie.com. But I also love to connect with people on my Facebook profile and pages.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
I’m a new author myself, but “be true to yourself”. There’s a lot of advice out there, but I believe that when we’re given a message to deliver, we can’t afford to let well-intentioned advice distract us from that message. Otherwise, the people who need to hear it most miss out.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t let your God-given gift go to waste.
What are you reading now?
The Operative: Chords of Danger Book 2 by Hallee Bridgeman. I love Christian romance suspense.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I want to go out into the community and connect with more single moms. I want to build a better connection with my audience. But I also have several writing projects, many of which I started years ago, that I want to finish. One is a Christian romance suspense. Go figure!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Any Christian romance suspense by Christy Barritt, Edie James, or Susan Sleeman. And along with that, Spirit Rising by Jim Cymbala.
