Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an independent author who lives in Raleigh, North Carolina with my wife and son. Our misadventures together provide the inspiration for many of my writings. I write mainly satirical short stories that are loosely based on real events. Occasionally, I write other types of stories. I have self-published two books: Current Mood and I Put Pants on for This?: Stories in Defense of Staying Home.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I Put Pants on for This?: Stories in Defense of Staying Home is my most recent book. This collection of short stories was inspired by the many mishaps that have occurred while I have traveled including: getting lost in the desert outside Las Vegas, “kidnapped” in the Caribbean, and having a romantic getaway end in a hospital stay.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not unless you count scrolling through Twitter every 5 or 10 minutes while writing as unusual.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
My biggest influences are David Sedaris and Bill Bryson. I could read their writing all day and never stop laughing. My absolute favorite books are A Walk in the Woods and Me Talk Pretty One Day.
What are you working on now?
I’m currently taking a break from my usual genre and working on my first legal thriller.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
That’s a good question because I’m not very good at promoting my books, which I suppose is why I still have a day job in addition to my writing career. I’ve found the most success in the past with advertising through Amazon.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Seek out connections with established writers and learn from their experiences.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Keep is simple, stupid.
What are you reading now?
I’m currently reading Nigh School by Lee Child. I’m a huge Jack Reacher fan.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m working on my first full length novel.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson, Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris, The Hush by John Hart, and Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens.
