Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a 36yr old nurse from New Zealand, who is a mother to two children under five, and studying for my Master’s at the same time as writing several novels.
I have one published novel, with several more in the works.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
She Wore Black: The Alexis Chronicles Book One was inspired by the MeToo movement, in particular the rise of complaints against it. The inspiration came from hearing someone say that woman were gaining too much power – and my mind went off and created a city built by people who thought that way – and the feisty MC Reed Taylor was born…and fought back
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have to have a glass of Pepsi Max with me, usually.
I can write almost anywhere – in the car (only as a passenger of course), in bed, at a desk, on the floor. I just need a notebook and pen or a laptop. I also will listen to the same song/s over and over again.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Divergent, and Hunger Games.
Kim Harrison, Kelley Armstrong, Laurel K Hamilton’s earlier work, Stephen King. I read a bit of everything
What are you working on now?
Black Phoenix Rising: The Alexis Chronicles Book Two
Elements (Working Title) – UF/Dystopian crossover
A collaboration with another author in an entirely different genre – and we’re trying out humorous takes on stereotypes we both live within.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Facebook, Amazon.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just get it on paper first. Don’t edit as you go, just get it out of your head. Go back later and be critical.
You will feel like you are the worst writer in the world – we’ve all been there – you aren’t, believe in yourself
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just keep going.
What are you reading now?
Dying for a Living – Kory M. Shrum
A Map of Days – Book Four of Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children – Ransom Riggs
What’s next for you as a writer?
Finish Book Two, and Elements, and continue to write the series
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
My Kindle – haha.
