Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a South London based author, teacher and special needs coordinator. I’m also an extremely proud mother of two beautiful souls who fill me with love, joy and laughter each and every day.
I have written a children’s picture called The Bibalibet (currently available on Amazon) which was is a heartwarming tale of a loveable monster and his quest for his lost smile.
My second book, Mirror Maze Land is a longer, fantasy novel, for older children and that will be out soon. I’ll be sure to keep you posted!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Bibalibet was inspired by my youngest child Sirius and was created to teach children about the relationship between the things that we do and how this impacts on how we feel. I choose the character name, Bibalibet, because I think it’s so much fun to say.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Every half term I travel to Woking to spend a weekend writing. I’m so inspired by spending in nature.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Roald Dahl is one of my favourite authors of time. As a child I devoured stories that created strange and wonderful creatures. Alice in Wonderland is also another favourite of mine.
What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on a book which is another fantasy novel inspired by elements of my childhood and my time spent living in Zimbabwe.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Twitter, Facebook, Amazon Author page and my website www.jaidzmajasi.com
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write for yourself first. Make sure that you stay true to your voice and just keep writing and improving your craft.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
You can’t please everyone. As long as you can look at yourself in the mirror and honestly say that you’ve tried your best – that’s all that counts. That’s all anyone could ever ask.
What are you reading now?
My daughter and I are reading The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips by Michael Morpurgo together.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Keep writing. I’d love to have copies of my books in every school.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
1. Boy (Roald Dahl)
2. Odd Thomas (Dean Koontz)
3. Jim Henson’s The Power of the Dark Crystal
