Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hello! I’m a creative nerd at heart and love exploring the imaginations of others as well as growing my own! So far I’ve written one novel, but I don’t plan on stopping there!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is the sequel to Wetherrand. I don’t have a name for it yet; I like to add the name after the book is finished, so I don’t feel the need to craft the story to fit the title.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to write at night, while drinking a lot of coffee. It works really well for me, but I probably wouldn’t recommend it to other writers.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Some of the highlights of my childhood were getting a newly released copy of the newest Harry Potter book. I also enjoyed the Golden Compass and Eragon.
What are you working on now?
Apart from writing, I really enjoy traveling. I believe that in order to fully imagine and create a new world inside a story, you have to be as familiar as you can with the one you live in outside of it too.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Most of my readers have obtained a copy of my book through: https://www.amazon.com/Wetherrand-1-Jake-Imanse/dp/1539903591
Do you have any advice for new authors?
If you are going to choose a theme to write about, think about the topics you could talk about until all your friends intentionally change the subject or have left the room. When you look over your book for the thousandth time, you want to fall in love with it all over again, not be sick of the content.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Books are the vessel for meeting and interacting with people that you’ve never met. The writer could have passed away hundreds of years ago, but a piece of who they were is timelessly preserved through their writing. It’s the closest we can get to meeting and knowing them.
What are you reading now?
Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchet. It is a masterpiece.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I want to continue to expand my imagination as I meet and learn from other writers.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I’d bring the fifth Harry Potter book (my favorite of the series), The Golden Compass, and Frank Herbert’s Dune. I’m very nostalgic.
