Interview With Author James J Phelps
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m James. I am an ordained priest with the American Marriage Ministries and a member of the Freedom of the Press Foundation and the American Civil Liberties Union and I speak to civic and religious groups about safeguarding our freedoms and how to recognize the signs of subversion and sedition. I am in my seventies and I live in South Alabama. I write in my spare time and I have twenty-one published works to my credit so far.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is “Saving a Democracy: Final Chapter” and the political events, especially the January sixth confrontation at the capital and the events in Charlottesville were my inspiration.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I prefer to write late, late at night in a silent room.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I cannot even begin to answer that; I am into everything, but if you pinned me down, I would go with Margaret Mitchel and “Gone with the Wind”.
What are you working on now?
I am still trying to master the art of formatting and I don’t really have anything on-going right now.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’ll go with KDP Select; I’m new to promotions as well.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Take your time and follow the advice of your peers with more experience. Join lots of groups and do the same.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t do Mass on an empty stomach; your parishioners will think it’s the end of time that they hear rumbling!
What are you reading now?
Several text books about the political and socio-economic climate in Europe before, during, and after World War Two.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Keep on keeping on till I get it right.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible, the Koran, a survival manual and a long, long drama novel of some kind.
