Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a single father of one, an Englishman living in France, and a guy who writes the kind of books that’ll take you back to your misspent youth! I have four main titles available on Amazon, three of them crime/psychological thriller orientated, and a satirical comedy as well – because we should all have a laugh from time to time!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“Finding Her Feet” is my latest release. This is a dark story, based on the life of someone I once knew and loved. It is a dramatic, contemporary tragedy, with characters who all deal with the desperate circumstances in their own way.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Maybe. Probably. I guess so. What was the question? No. I don’t have any rituals I perform before settling down to write, and I don’t need to wear my lucky slippers or anything. I just write when I can; whenever real life doesn’t get in the way of creating a pretend one.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
That’s hard. I like to think I have my own style, but then, every book I have ever read must have influenced me in a way; positively or negatively. I like short, choppy chapters, like James Patterson writes. I like the descriptive and great imagination that you find in bokks by Terry Pratchett. And I still sometimes find time to laugh at the farcical humour one finds in thr Woody Allen books. I have a very mixed book shelf, and I love it!
What are you working on now?
I’m toying with the idea, which means making notes and scribbling out lots of terrible ideas, of writing a new psychological suspense/thriller involving religious fundamentalism. I have ideas for the plot, but nothing is set in concrete, and before I commit to it, I need to be sure that the final project at least shows potential to be something of worth.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
When I first release a book, I do a free promotion, then word of mouth usually helps spread news of the book. I use twitter and facebook also. Occasionally, I’ve dabbled with paid advertising, but as a lowly-paid author, that’s not really a position I’m in to do often.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Find someone who you trust enough to be honest with you when they read your book, before publishing, of course. Listen to fair criticism, and act on it if necessary. But, don’t be afraid to ignore people’s advice sometimes.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Treat her well, her father’s a cop.”
What are you reading now?
Cloudstreet by Tim Winton – it’s very good.
What’s next for you as a writer?
As a writer… well, there’s the new project, I really need to make some hard decisions about decisions about that. Also, I need to continue to market the books I’ve already got under the belt. Son of a Serial Killer and Finding Her Feet both have giveaways listed on Goodreads until the end of October – please, enter the draw and maybe get a free paperback of one of my titles!
