Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a jack of all trades. I’m a mom, first and foremost, to two rambunctious boys. I’m also an RN, a medical records consultant, a tutor, and of course an author. So far I have three books released. A novella in the Steward Saga called “The Tale of Briton’s Fury” and the first book in the Steward Saga series called “Rift in the Deep.” I also have a short book called “The Survival Guide for Nursing Students” that was published recently.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I wrote “Rift in the Deep” when I was bedbound after knee surgery for twelve weeks. I had put writing on hold to get a “real” job (nursing is not for the faint of heart, ya’all). But as I was recovering, the idea for the book came to me one day. It was almost like an epiphany, and the opening scene of chapter 1 was the vision.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Nothing I would term unusual, although I work with two VERY loud toddlers around me, climbing on me, and generally making it as hard as possible to concentrate! (I just got interrupted as I wrote that!)
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Too many to list. But the VERY MOST would be CS Lewis, Robert Jordan, and JRR Tolkien.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on Book 2 of the Steward Saga “Rise of the Warlock King” available at the end of May.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Promotion is hard. Facebook groups have been the best for me, as well as Amazon ads.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t get discouraged. My first series I wrote was TERRIBLE. Practice makes perfect. It’s a rare thing that your first idea is your best one.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Grow thick skin. Authors will be trolled, reviewers will be harsh. I laughed at my first one star review instead of crying, so that advice I really took to heart.
What are you reading now?
The Stormlight Archives by Branden Sanderson, Asrian Skies by Anne Wheeler, The Forsaken Crown by Christina Ochs, and The Beautiful Fight by Gary Thomas.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I will be working on the rest of the Steward Saga series. Book Three will hopefully be released at the beginning of August, and Book 4 sometime in 2019.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Only 4!!? What a ridiculously hard questions LOL. Ok, if FORCED to choose…1) The Bible 2) The Wheel of Time Series (I know, that’s probably cheating) 3) The Pilgrims Progress 4) ummmmmmm…omg. Ok, ok, THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA. But that’s probably cheating again.
