Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m the author of The Commandments Book Series, which includes The Single Ladies’ Commandments and The Gentlemen’s Commandments. I’m also the author of a short story entitled “911” Emergency Crisis: The Day I Lost My Mind Literally.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Gentlemen’s Commandments is the second installment in my book series. The book is designed to encourage unmarried Gentlemen on their single journey through 30 devotions and 30 contemporary songs.
I was inspired to write this book for the men who desire a good woman, but recognize the temptations of this world sometimes asks for the best of them.
I wrote this book from a woman’s perspective. I was born a girl, raised a lady, and now I’m a woman reaching out to Gentlemen. As a single woman myself for many years, I’ve dated men, studied men, learned about men, and now I want to enlighten men on the women’s mind.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
When I have the urge to write, I have to jot it down right away. Usually I draft my thoughts in my phone’s notepad or a nearby journal.
There are also days where I don’t do anything, but write. I just wake up and write until I have exhausted my mind of my thoughts.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Other inspirational and spiritual books have influenced me as an author. Most notably, The Holy Bible has inspired me as I make many references to the Bible in my own books.
What are you working on now?
Right now, I’m preparing to shift gears from writing books to conforming my first book into a screenplay.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I utilize Instagram on a weekly basis to promote my brand and books.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t get discouraged. Make a plan and execute. Don’t criticize yourself for not writing enough this week, or not checking off a box on the “to-do” list. Rather keep a positive mind set.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I received the best advice from another successful self-published author.
She asked, “Who is going to market you or your brand better than you?”
I thought about it. Yes, the publicist may have stronger relationships in the industry than me. A coach may have more experience as an author than me, but who is really going to know the heart and soul of my book like me?
What are you reading now?
Becoming Michelle Obama… although not too sure it qualifies as reading because I’m actually listening to the audio book.
I’m reading, Praying for My Future Husband, for the second time.
What’s next for you as a writer?
After I write my screenplay, I plan to continue my book series. I also plan to help more aspiring authors self-publish their books.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Holy Bible, for sure, but not too sure this counts since there are actually 66 books.
