Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have three children (with one just born a few weeks ago!) and have written six books. For work, I’m the principal of the Christadelphian Heritage School, where I also teach Holocaust Studies, Religious Studies, and Hebrew.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The latest book is named “Part of the Family – Christadelphians, the Kindertransport, and Rescue from the Holocaust.” I began writing it after taking part in a few different professional development experiences related to teaching about the Holocaust. These activities inspired me to look into my own community’s history regarding the Holocaust, and this book is the result!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I always drink two cups of black tea when I write.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Glenn Kurtz and his book “Three Minutes in Poland” was particualrly inspiring. When I was at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, I heard him tell his story of discovery in person, and that was one of my major motivators in looking deeper into my own community’s connection to the Holocaust and rescue efforts.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on volume 2 in the series. Christadelphians helped to save over 250 Jewish children from the Nazis––the first book records the stories of 10 of them. Hopefully this second book will record another 10.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use Facebook quite a bit.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Never stop writing. Whenever you have an idea, write it down!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The greatest show of love is when you lay down your life for your friends.
What are you reading now?
Ironically, I’m reading “Three Minutes in Poland” by Glenn Kurtz.
What’s next for you as a writer?
We’re actually working on a documentary about this subject. Two friends and I have been flying around the United States trying to interview some of the “children” who lived with Christadelphians during the war. So far we’ve put together two videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsxFaBBwyeU, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5G7iXMkyPT0
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible, Studies in the Gospels by Harry Whittaker, and Elpis Israel by John Thomas
