Interview With Author Jason Pfiffner
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi! I’m Jason Pfiffner, an engineer by day and a fantasy writer by night. I’ve always been drawn to storytelling, especially tales of adventure, magic, and rebellion. The Warlock Rebellion is my debut novel, and it’s been an incredible journey bringing this story to life. Writing this book has been a dream come true, and I’m excited to share it with readers who love fast-paced fantasy, compelling characters, and high-stakes adventure. While this is my first book, it certainly won’t be my last—I have many more stories waiting to be told!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is The Warlock Rebellion, a fantasy adventure filled with forbidden magic, dangerous enemies, and a fight for freedom. One of my biggest inspirations was A Spell for Chameleon by Piers Anthony, which introduced the idea that everyone has magic in some form. That concept stuck with me—the idea that magic isn’t just for a chosen few but is something deeper and more personal. In The Warlock Rebellion, I wanted to explore how magic shapes people’s destinies, how it can be both a gift and a curse, and what happens when a world fears those who wield it. That and my love of fantasy and underdog heroes helped bring this story to life.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Absolutely! My writing habits are pure chaos. Some days, I crank out thousands of words; other days, I stare at the screen, questioning my life choices. I also tend to jump between scenes in my head instead of writing in order, which makes for an interesting editing process. Somehow, amidst all the chaos, the story comes together in the end!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
One of my biggest influences is A Spell for Chameleon by Piers Anthony. I was fascinated by the idea that everyone has magic in some form, and that concept really shaped how I approached the magic system in The Warlock Rebellion. I’ve also been inspired by authors like Rick Riordan and Shannon Messenger, who create fast-paced, character-driven fantasy worlds that appeal to both Middle Grade and Young Adult readers. Their ability to blend adventure, humor, and deep emotional stakes is something I admire.
What are you working on now?
Right now, I’m working on the next book in the series! Without giving too much away, this story will have some shocking twists. It’s been exciting to expand the world and push the characters to their limits, and I can’t wait to share more soon!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Since The Warlock Rebellion is my debut novel, I’m still exploring different ways to promote it. I’ve also been building my email list through giveaways and my website (jasonpfiffner.com), which has helped generate interest before the launch. As I continue this journey, I plan to experiment with Amazon ads and newsletter promotions like BookBub. It’s a learning process, but I’m excited to see what works best.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
My best advice? Just jump in and go. Don’t get stuck overthinking or worrying about having everything perfectly planned—start writing. It’s easy to get caught up in world-building, outlines, and research, but at the end of the day, the most important thing is to put words on the page. You can always revise, refine, and restructure later, but you can’t edit a blank page.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I’ve ever heard is simple: Just start. It’s easy to get caught up in planning, self-doubt, or waiting for the ‘perfect’ moment, but the truth is, the perfect moment never comes. You learn by doing, and the only way to improve as a writer is to put words on the page. Jump in, trust yourself, and let the story unfold.
What are you reading now?
I’m reading Gathering Darkness, the third book in the Falling Kingdoms series by Morgan Rhodes. I’m enjoying the mix of magic, political intrigue, and shifting alliances—it’s fast-paced and full of unexpected twists. I love stories with high stakes and morally complex characters, so this series has been a great read so far!
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m focused on two big things: writing the next book in The Warlock Rebellion series and promoting my debut novel. I’m working hard to get The Warlock Rebellion into the hands of readers through giveaways, social media, and other promotions. It’s a busy but exciting time, and I can’t wait to share more soon!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
To be honest, choosing just three or four books to take on a desert island is a daunting task! There are countless amazing books out there, and both the ones I’ve already read and those still waiting on my shelf have their allure.
If forced to make a decision, I’d likely opt for books that I haven’t yet had the chance to experience. The thought of discovering new worlds, characters, and ideas through reading is tantalizing, and being stranded with these unread gems would allow me to meet new authors and friends.
