Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am Jay Aston. I am the son of a Yorkshire coal miner. I was brought up in a typical mining village close to Sheffield, UK.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The book is called ‘Orphans of an Angel’. It is the tragic, but true story of my mother’s plight of destitution. It was a story ‘crying out’ to be written. She was atrue Angel, an unsung hero who struggled to bring up four very young boys alone. She had a constant battle to provide food and a home (eviction through destitution) and a fight to keep us all out of a Children’s Home.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I awake by daylight and I cannot wait to start writing. I have a break late morning, then start writing again by 11.0 pm for 2 hours
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Because I an ibn my Autumn years, The Thirty Nine Steps by Joghn Buchan has always been a perennial favourite. There has been at least 3 remakes of the film. Being from northern England the UK author, playwright and director is awesome (One of my awesome gang). She has written awesome scripts such as ‘Last Tango in Halifax’, ‘Gentleman Jack’ a true story of a lesbian relationship 200 years ago, Happy Valley. These may not have been shown outside the UK.
