Interview With Author JD Goland
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a happily married father of 3. Always dreamed of writing, but have always doubted myself. I’ve had people always tell me that I can tell and write compelling stories but never really believed in myself. I just dropped my second part of my 5 part series called Gold and Silver. Blood and Silver was my first novel and debuted earlier this year.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
On the sixth of June I dropped the second part of my series Gold and Silver.
Honestly what inspired me was reading Tolkien’s novels. The intricate world he designed, and the characters each have a strong individual feel. I write in that aspect. Strong characters with a strength of a family bond, hard action and surprising twist. It truly is a dream come true.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Usually I just sit at the computer, Pepsi in one hand and TikTok on the other, as my mind sometimes goes way faster than I can type. Sometimes just need a little distraction to calm myself down and stick to where I am.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Mortal instruments is a strong influence on me, considering the wide world that would be weaved from just one series.
Vampire Academy also is an influence. But Tolkien will always be the biggest influence.
What are you working on now?
I’m knee deep in working on the third part of my series right now.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I TikTok all the time, engage as often as I can. But when it comes to indie promotions, nothing beats a cold call and donations. Donating to your local library will get you into the library system, then you can make calls and try to get in other ones.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Believe in yourself. It’s the best thing I can offer to anyone. There is a whole world out there and everyone has different tastes. Don’t worry about the negatives, worry about the positives.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Dance like nobody is watching.
What are you reading now?
Ive got some indie author’s I’m waiting to drop their novels to read. I love supporting others as they support me. While the big novels are always there, indies need the support more. One novel could be the difference in someone giving up.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Just keeping on down the series. When all five are out, I’ll make a decision on how to proceed from there. Ive thought about telling different stories, stand alones probably, or starting a new series as a current timed fantasy.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Lord of the rings.
