Interview With Author Jeffrey Blander
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m an author who believes stories can be gentle bridges between love, loss, and hope. I write children’s books that help young readers and the adults who read with them explore big emotions through imagination, nature, and kindness.
I’ve written several children’s books as well as three professional textbooks. Writing in both spaces has shaped my love for clarity, storytelling, and making meaningful ideas accessible.
My stories are inspired by my family, my daughter, and the belief that love never truly leaves us.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book, Jessica and the Dancing Fairies, is a story of love, loss, and healing.
It was inspired by my own experience of losing my mother when I was very young and later rediscovering a story she had written for me. The book shows that even when someone we love is no longer nearby, their love lives on in memory, kindness, and the beauty around us.
I was also deeply shaped by a childhood moment of kindness. One of my last birthday gifts from my mom was a simple plush toy, given through the generosity of a stranger. It taught me early that love and compassion are what make things and people “real.”
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I often begin with emotion before plot. I write from feeling first, then let the story grow. Often find inspiration in nature and will record ideas while hiking.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’m inspired by authors who write with heart and humility and who show that love, imagination, and compassion are forms of courage.
E.B. White and The Velveteen Rabbit have always stayed with me. These stories show that love, imagination, and kindness are what make us real, and that gentleness is a form of strength.
What are you working on now?
Developing new stories that help children and families find comfort and connection through storytelling.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Authentic connection. Sharing stories through communities that value kindness, creativity, and healing is always more powerful than traditional marketing.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write from the heart, not from fear of getting it perfect. The stories that matter most are honest, gentle, and true to your experience. Trust your voice.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Kindness matters more than being right. Small acts of love can change everything.
What are you reading now?
I love books that explore imagination, resilience, and connection. Both children’s stories that honor big emotions and nonfiction that reminds us how powerful love can be.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I plan to continue expanding the Maisha and Friends universe and writing stories like Jessica and the Dancing Fairies that help families navigate love, loss, and healing with gentleness and hope.
All proceeds from my children’s books are donated to charitable causes supporting children, families, and environmental restoration efforts.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would bring a children’s classic that celebrates imagination, a book of poetry for reflection, a novel rooted in hope and resilience, and a nature guide to remind me of the beauty and wonder around me.
