Interview With Author Jennifer Penrose
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a mother of two now young adult boys. I have a wonderful husband. I have a love of working with young children and have off and on for years. Currently, I work part-time at my church and write books. I have written 1 book that has been published so far but am working on others.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The title of my book is I Am God Breathed. As I have worked with children, especially in the last couple of years, it seems like children do not know what to do with all of their emotions and do not know how to cope. In the schools, we were seeing more and more children with behavioral issues in the classroom. My first book was dedicated to just that.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I tend to get my best ideas just after I go to bed. So frequently you will see me getting back up out of bed after like 30 minutes and just start writing.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Lori Wick is one of my favorite authors and as I had been reading her books over the last couple of years, I thought I want to write something meaningful like that. I want to write something that talks about God and his love for each of us.
What are you working on now?
I have written a couple of other children’s books that I am working on finding a publisher for. I am also working on an Old Testament devotional series for adults.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have promoted my book a few different ways. I have promoted online at sites such as goodreads and pinterest, as well as sending some of my books to local preschools in my area.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t give up if you do not succeed at first. Becoming an author is a process. If you know that this is what you are called to do, keep at it. You will get there. Even if my book only helps one family, it is all worth it.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.
What are you reading now?
I am currently reading an Amish mystery series by Vannetta Chapman.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Hopefully getting a couple more of my children’s books published.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
First, I would definitely bring my book of stories by Jane Austen. Then I would bring a couple of my Lori Wick books. I can read these books over and over again.
