Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
This is my first book. My second, “By Dawn’s Early Light” will be coming out in March. I already have the third laid out already.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“By Dawn’s Early Light” incorporates all the information I covered in “The Tough Mama’s Guide to Survival.” It was important for me to show how knowledge learned can be easily incorporated into a real-life scenario.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Almost all of my writing is done on a TV table in my room or living room with my boys by my side. They are all writers. We are writing, bouncing story ideas, laughing at our boo-boos, and watching Jeopardy while writing. My two-year-old granddaughter, Millie, is with us for all writing sessions everyday, bouncing from lap to lap.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love the humor of John Irving.
What are you working on now?
I am finishing up “By Dawn’s Early Light,” then will be starting my third book, which I have not yet named. Still bouncing around with that title.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I like the Awesome Gang community! It is supportive of both readers and writers.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Never stop writing. Even when you can’t think of what to write, write anyway!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
There are two kernels of knowledge that I could not live without.
1. It is better to have something and not need it, then need it and not have it.
2. Sleep when you’re dead.
What are you reading now?
I’ve been reading Jacqueline Druga.
What’s next for you as a writer?
My third novel, which I haven’t put a name to yet. I’m on a roll.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
1. A crossword puzzle book to keep the mind sharp.
2. A Prayer to Owen Meany to keep me laughing.
3. A seafood cookbook for all the fish I’ll catch on the island.
4. A picture book of babies with kittens to keep my heart soft.
