Interview With Author Jenny Ahmed
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve started my book writing career with a non-fiction prepper book geared toward women, Tough Mama Survival. That was a very well read book! Then came Tough Mama’s Mean Business. That is geared for women trying to make it in the business world. I’ve now switched back to my real love ~ dystopian fiction. My latest book is The Burning Sky. I have four books in various stages of promotion that will be released every few weeks.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Burning Sky is the latest. It’s about an asteroid coming to earth. Xiphos, the asteroid, was bigger than the one that wiped out the dinosaurs. Like in every day life, there are two choices each person is faced with: good and evil. Dr. Elena Kovacs, our heroine, was faced with multiple decisions that affected every human on earth, and build a new democracy. Everyone in the world wants to be loved. The same desires are wanted whether life is good or bad.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes, I do happen to have a couple! First, I love sitting up all night writing. No ringing phones, no knocking doors and no kids. It is truly a peaceful time to write. My second weirdo writing habit is to insert a piece of truth in every story. The next book coming out is By Dawn’s Early Light. The kernal of truth in this story is utterly shocking! My mouth was agape while I was researching. While writing this book, I was genuinely scared.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have a few favorite writers: I enjoy reading Jacqueline Druga. She has a unique and creative mind. Additionally, she is active in putting her books in film. She is truly a great writer.
What are you working on now?
I’m finishing the final edits of By Dawn’s Early Light. I’ve also started on my next novel, which I have yet to name.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m still trying to find that out! If you know, please pass it on. The obvious is Facebook and Amazon, but anywhere there is someone who likes to read a book is the person I would really love to meet. I will have BookBub ads coming up soon.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yes!
The first thing is to enjoy writing. It is not a race. Take your time and enjoy the process. Also, keep an open mind. Don’t be surprised if your ending changes. In The Burning Sky I had beautiful chapter notes. Needless to say, I’ve cut them into small squares for note paper. You will know you’re on the right path when you can visualize the characters and how they will act. Enjoy! Enjoy! and Enjoy! I’ve never had writers block, but if I did, I would keep writing and writing and put it down for a few days until you can review your work with fresh eyes.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Never, ever stop. I am the queen of forcing round pegs into square holes. Sometimes, that is what you have to do to punch through that writers’ block. The journey truly does start with the first step. That page count will grow and you will expand your self-esteem.
What are you reading now?
Currently I am doing several book reviews. I find by doing so I am able to work through difficulties I experience. I learn from every writer I review. I do have A.G. Riddle on my Kindle too.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I have four more books coming out before spring. My next book, By Dawn’s Early Light, is begging to become a film. This book is off the chain and I feel it would be a good movie. I am also putting that manuscript into a screen format. Keeping my fingers crossed!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
My first book would be Tough Mama Survival because that would show me how to survive in such conditions. I would have Jacqueline Druga’s latest books. And more books that need to be reviewed. I’m also a big fan of A.G. Riddle
