Interview With Author Jenny Alexander
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Jenny. I’m a newlywed in my 50s and recently started a new life in a new Canadian province with my wonderful husband. I’ve wanted to author books for at least the last 10 years or so. I gave up on that dream for a while but thanks to my husband’s encouragement, I began writing again. I first started on the Medium writing platform. Writing there inspired my first few books. I’ve written four books so far, two of them are published and the other two are in the process of being published.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Food for the Soul: A Bible Study for Deep Thinkers. My love for Word studies and discovering truth for myself was the inspiration. This book is slated to be published in March.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
My computer sits on the same table my husband and I dine at.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Francine Rivers and Jasmine Womack are authors I can think of at the moment who influenced me. Shirley Vogel, Colleen Cole, and Janet Sketchley are others.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on an upcoming webinar: Boundary Benefits Bootcamp related to my first book Divorce Recovery Handbook: Effective Strategies for Healing. The details and registration page are on my website.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Facebook Ads are good for gaining exposure. Word of mouth is good, too. Amazon allows you to offer your book free for 5 days every 90 days. Using these days are beneficial at times. Using the free days put my first book on the best sellers list in a couple of categories for a few days! I
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep writing. Don’t give up. Also, don’t expect to be an overnight success. Small starts are normal. Continue to preserve even in the face of discouragement. Remember WHY you write. Also, remember that no one else has your voice, your experience, and your writing style.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Small starts are normal, and mistakes are our friends.
What are you reading now?
I have a couple of books I need to finish reading, one of them relates to goal and vision setting. There is another book I’m reading which deals with counterfeit comforts like emotional eating.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’ll be working on the finishing touches for Food for the Soul. My poetry book will also be launched in the next couple of weeks. I’d like to create a webinar from my second book: Stop Settling When it Comes to Love: Wise Dating Practices for Women. I’d eventually love to create a children’s book.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible, Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway, and my Kindle – although I guess the charge wouldn’t last too long. At least it would give me a number of options for a short while. ๐
