Interview With Author Jenny Clift
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi, I’m a professional violinist, an EFT – Emotional Freedom Techniques – Tapping coach, and yes, a writer!
I’ve written two books. The first, The Music Inside (published 2016), described my journey as a musician, how I discovered EFT and used it to grow in my musical career.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
THRIVING ARTIST: How Musicians, Performers, and Creatives Can Use EFT TAPPING to Achieve
Balance, Career Growth, and Success
is as a result of working for the last decade with musicians, performers and creatives, sharing Emotional Freedom Techniques with them to enhance their careers and lives.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
My most helpful technique for writing – and one I use for the whole book, for every chapter, and even for my annual Christmas letter! – is MINDMAPPING. It enables me to get all my thoughts, ideas and resources down in one place and ensures that nothing I want to say gets left out.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
When I was a child my favourite book was Enid Blyton’s ‘The Faraway Tree’!!
Then a mixture – classics (all of Jane Austen, Trollope etc) and novels by Lynne Reid Banks, Rosie Thomas, John Irving, Jeffrey Archer…anything with a great story and great characters.
I love authors like Michael Crichton (I read his ‘Travels’ 3 times!) and Bill Bryson. Starting on my personal development journey I read all of Scott Peck’s ‘The Road Less Travelled’ series as well as Alan Cohen’s books.
My writing is inspired by so many authors, coaches and thought leaders. I LOVE googling ‘inspirational quotes’ by Einstein, Gandhi, Benjamin Franklin and Churchill to name just a few.
What are you working on now?
Promoting my second book, THRIVING ARTIST. It’s great to have this finished and time to breathe a sigh of relief.
But I do have plans for a third book, of EFT Tapping scripts and instruction.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
First of all, word of mouth! Reaching out to friends, colleagues, clients and asking them directly to spread the word, write a review and support me in that way.
I use social media as well as amazon pages.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
I discovered that I had ideas I wanted to share through writing my books – that really increased my confidence, and yes, helped me to become an ‘author-ity’ in my subject.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Not sure if this is the best, but I love this and added it to my back cover:
”Thriving as an artist isn’t just about talent; it’s about releasing what holds you back and stepping fully into your creative power.”
What are you reading now?
On Becoming a Person by Carl Rogers.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Hopefully a book with EFT Tapping scripts and resources. After a little break to gather my thoughts!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
What a dismal thought (I’m always hungry for more words)… but perhaps:
Enid Blighton The Faraway Tree (to appeal to my inner child)
Jane Austen Pride and Prejudice
Russian Short Stories published by Senate
How to Escape from a Desert Island Quickly and Easily (I may have to write that one!!)
