Interview With Author Jeremy Janus
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I wrote my first book last year and published it in March of 2022. I have proofs of my second book coming to me right now and it should be published sometime in October.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My first and newest book is called “Intimate Isolation: A Photographic Journey Through Nature” and it was inspired by my photographic journey in life. I wanted something special to commemorate my first 5 years in photography in 2021 so I decided to produce this book.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to sit down and write as much as I possibly can while I am inspired. Inspiration can be waning so I try to take advantage of it as much as possible.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I am influenced daily by other photographers and authors. I read quite a bit and I love content by Jordan Peterson, Simon Sinek, and Bob Buford to name a few.
What are you working on now?
My second book “Colorado Through the Seasons: A Photographic Journey Through the Rocky Mountains” is in the final proof stage right now. It is a book to commemorate the 35 piece solo exhibit that I have hanging in the Denver International Airport until the end of 2022. It follows Colorado through the seasons of winter, spring, summer, and fall and has pictures from all over the state.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
For me personally it has been libraries. I love being a part of the community and I have been able to teach courses, do a number of talks on my book, as well as book signings in the Colorado community which I have loved immensely.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just do it. If you spend time thinking about the process, publishing, marketing, etc. it will become overwhelming and you’ll never start. You have to take the first step to be great at anything, and you will be great at nothing if you never take the leap into the unknown.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
If you want to change the world, change yourself first.
What are you reading now?
12 Rules for Life by Jordan Peterson. I took a bit of a hiatus from reading for a while so I’m getting back into it with one of my favorite books.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I am going to develop a passion project of mine which is a book on storms. I took my first lightning shot in 2019 and I have been hooked ever since. One of my most famous photos is a lightning shot I took in 2020 that has won 6 awards and has been exhibited in about 40 galleries and exhibitions including the Atlanta International Airport. Storms are near and dear to my heart and sharing their beauty will bring me great joy!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
12 Rules for Life by Jordan Peterson
Start With Why by Simon Sinek
Halftime by Bob Buford
Quiet by Susan Cain
