Interview With Author Jessica Bozie
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I go by J.B Bozie, a novelist from Ghana based in the UK with a focus on crime thrillers and fantasy books. So far I have written over 30 books and about 6 of them being complete novels. My debut novel, a sci-fi fantasy novel was released in November last year (2025). I am currently working to release 2 more books this year.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
MISFIT – The Binjun Legacy is the title of my latest novel. It was inspired by a resounding desire to represent Africa in a new light and introduce it to the world of sci-fi fantasy as there really aren’t many writers from Africa focused on Scifi fantasy and I wanted to change and pioneer that.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes a few! Can never seem to write without a pillow or blanket present. I think creating a sense of ‘coziness’ switches my brain to writing mode. Also taking a shower right before I write, no pun intended. Feeling refreshed and cozy, gets the juices following.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I am a massive fan of Agatha Christie, I have always been mesmerised by her art and her gift at storytelling. Also Sidney Sheldon who has somehow mentored me from a distance through his art. You may even find some similarities between my way of writing and his, not because I try to copy him or anything but because I’ve drenched myself so much into Sidney Sheldon books, it’s almost as if it’s shaped my tone, diction and way of storytelling.
What are you working on now?
Currently working on an African novel titled “The Curse of The War Horn”. This one hits close to home because it is solely set in Ghana and features a couple of tribes and their history. Definitely different from anything you’ve ever read coming from my side of the world. Let’s just say it’s pretty different in an exciting and mystique way.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Started out on Wattpad to gain a lot of readers but i largely promote my work on my website @ jbbozie.co.uk.
Also my tiktok (@bozbeee) and instagram(jb_boziebooks). I also recently started getting curious about Substack although I honestly don’t know what I’m doing on there most of the time. Haha!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just keep writing. And if you ever feel stuck, come check out my journal “Creative Writing for Blocked Heads, which will most definitely get you unstuck or help you start or finish your project. Writers block sometimes comes from being oversaturated or unmotivated and it’s very normal when you’re repeatedly doing the same thing or working on the same book. Starting something new is the secret to keeping your art flowing. When something isn’t working, leave it, do something else, you will return to it at the right time. It has always worked for me and thats the only reason I’ve been able to write this many manuscripts.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Every writer has their own methods, what works for me might not work for you so trust your instincts as a writer but ensure you stay consistent.
What are you reading now?
A book titled “Crooked Heart” by Lissa Evans which is not only hilarious but very touching.
What’s next for you as a writer?
FInd my way into the world of film somehow, that has always been my dream and wish for my books especially my debut novel MISFIT.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Haha tricky one!. I’d bring a completely empty ruled out book with over 500 pages and practice writing short stories or maybe journal while stranded. Maybe Jane Austen’s “Sense and Sensibility” just because and try not to take any crime thrillers just so I don’t spook myself out. Maybe something lighthearted and comedic just so I don’t get depressed quickly. Will have to do some research on that as I hardly read comedy. A good opportunity to get into it i guess.
