Interview With Author Jim Lord
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve currently written one non-fiction book about leadership, “Don’t Wait, Lead Now”. I’ve been a successful business leader for 20+ years and compiled some of the best leadership stories and lessons I picked up along the way in hopes of being able to help anyone else in a position to lead others. I started a second book, but life tetris has pulled me in too many directions right now to spend any real time with it. My hope is to keep writing once life slows back down a bit.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My book is titled, “Don’t Wait, Lead Now” When COVID happened, and we were all forced to work from home – I had to quickly pack my office and bring my belongings home while we were all forced to work from home. While unpacking those boxes, I discovered tons of notebooks I’d used throughout my career to take notes and jot down leadership stories and principles I’d either deployed or witnessed in other leaders. I knew immediately that I had enough there to compile into a leadership book.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I typically write late at night, after a long day at work and once my family is settled in for the night, or maybe already in bed. I like to quite time to myself to think while I’m writing – and I prefer to not take valuable time away from my family.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’m a big fan of Tim Ferriss.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on a second book about leadership – albeit it’s a slow process. I don’t have time to make this a priority right now – but I am confident I’ll be the type of person who never stops writing.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My website is www.dontwaitleadnow.com My book is also available on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/DONT-WAIT-LEAD-NOW-leadership/dp/B09FCKHZRW
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Getting started was the toughest part for me. Just open word (or your fav word processor software) and start writing. There will be plenty of time for formatting and editing later. Don’t get hung up on making it perfect or making it “look good” – just write.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Do one more pushup (and yes, this is a chapter in my book)
What are you reading now?
The Happiness Equation by Neil Pasricha
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m still learning the best ways to advertise and market my book.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Daily Stoic, by Ryan Holiday
Man’s Search for Meaning, by Viktor Frankl
Can’t Hurt Me, by David Goggins
Extreme Ownership, by Jocko Willink
