Interview With Author Jo Anne Barnes
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I quit a job I loved supervising student teachers years ago to devote more time to my passion for writing. I’ve published five books, co-authored two, and I’m currently working on two more novels. My kitty and dog don’t like the time I spend writing, but I make sure I play with them each day.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
WINDS OF FATE – A PYGMALION ROMANCE is probably my favorite book. And you know the old saying, “write what you know.” Both of my daughters owned horses, and I learned a lot from them about training, caring for, and showing horses. So I knew I wanted to write a love story with strong but loving characters isolated on a horse farm, and I wanted to include humorous scenes. I’m also a fan of the movie, MY FAIR LADY, so I decided to weave
a makeover into my plot.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. In the past I made myself write daily, but I don’t do that anymore.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Danielle Steel, Sandra Brown, Anne Tyler, Fredrik Backman, and many others
What are you working on now?
Balloon Safari and Cajun Hideaway, but the titles might change. I use to crew for a hot air balloon astronaut, so I will continue to work on a love story involving a woman who pilots hot air balloons.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I suck swamp water at promoting my books, but I love websites such as this one. Thank you!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Join critique groups, read a lot, and write every day. You’ll get there!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write what you know. Read every book you can get your hands on.
What are you reading now?
Fredrik Backman’s A MAN CALLED OVE
What’s next for you as a writer?
That’s easy — Finish. the books I’ve started.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon
