Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Joan and I am currently working, attending school and writing. I have written five poetry collections with several more on the way and have been working on several different fantasy, science fiction and genre fiction stories.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is set to release August 30, 2020 and is called “Wild Hearts.” The book title was inspired by the fierce and wild nature of human hearts.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t have any particularly unusual habits, I try to write everyday, but often fail at that. From time to time I get big bouts of inspiration and can put a ton of words down at a time but more often than not it is slow but steady progress.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Authors like Rupi Kaur, Amanda Lovelace and Nikita Gill have certainly influenced my poetry writing, and on the fantasy and science fiction side I have been influenced by writers like Brent Weeks, Brandon Sanderson, and Orson Scott Card.
What are you working on now?
I’m currently finishing up preparing for the launch of “Wild Hearts” and am also working on my sixth poetry collection set to come out some time later this year or next year.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use all kinds of different sites, but I have quite a few people on Facebook and Instagram that I interact with and this is particularly helpful in boom promotion.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
My best advice I could give would probably be to just keep working hard and making progress, because little things add up to big ones very quickly.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I’ve ever heard would probably be to write everyday because it truly does add up faster than you would think.
What are you reading now?
Right now I’m reading Swallowtail by antenna Twohy.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m not sure what’s next for me as a writer. Hopefully a consistent production of new books that people will enjoy!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would probably bring Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn trilogy as I have been meaning to give it another read through and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
