Interview With Author Jocelyn Monres
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Jocelyn Monres, and I’m a writer who loves exploring the complexities of human emotion and identity through story. I’ve written three books across different genres: “Someone Named Her,” a psychological thriller; “Unredeemed,” a contemporary romance; and “You, an Introvert,” also a romance.
Out of the three, “Someone Named Her” is the only one I’ve published so far, and I’m excited to share more of my work with readers soon.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is “Someone Named Her.” The story was inspired by the small, everyday decisions people make online and how those choices can spiral into something much darker. I was fascinated by the idea of identity, how easy it is to borrow one, hide behind one, or lose control of one in the digital world. That curiosity grew into a psychological thriller about a harmless choice that opens the door to danger, secrets, and a life unraveling.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I do, actually. I tend to write in short, intense bursts usually late at night when the world feels quieter and my imagination is louder. I also keep a separate notes file full of random sentences, overheard conversations, and strange “what if” ideas that I sometimes don’t look at again for months. It’s a chaotic system, but it always ends up giving me the spark I need when I’m stuck.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I draw inspiration from a mix of authors and genres. Writers like Gillian Flynn and Paula Hawkins definitely shaped the way I think about tension, unreliable narrators, and the darker layers of human nature.
I’m also influenced by authors who blend emotion with realism like Colleen Hoover and Christina Lauren. Writers who aren’t afraid to explore flawed characters and complicated love.
I think every book I read leaves a small imprint, but those authors in particular helped me understand the kind of stories I want to tell.
What are you working on now?
Right now, I’m working on my next romance novel. It’s still in the early stages, but the characters are already taking shape, and I’m excited about where the story is heading.
I’m also gradually preparing my other unpublished manuscripts “Unredeemed” and “You, an Introvert?” for future release, so readers can expect more from me soon.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Do you have any advice for new authors?
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
A mentor once told me that hesitation is the enemy of storytelling; your first draft doesn’t have to be perfect; it just has to exist.
What are you reading now?
“The Silent Patient” by Alex Michaelides.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Next for me as a writer is continuing to expand my published work. I’m focusing on releasing “Unredeemed” and eventually “You, an Introvert?”, while also working on new stories.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Silent Patient – Alex Michaelides
It Ends With Us – Colleen Hoover
The Night Circus – Erin Morgenstern
1984 – George Orwell
