Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a writer and daily blogger of, Living La Vida Lymphoma. I have written four books.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is my paranormal memoir entitled, The House on Pancake Hill. Growing up in an extremely haunted house was the basis for me finally telling my story.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I wake up between 3-5 a.m. every day, put on the tea kettle, light some nag champa incense and some candles and I blog and write until I hit my maximum output for the day. I’ve always been a morning person and it is when I am at my creative best!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
There are too many to name, however, I gravitate towards inspirational writers such as Dr. Wayne Dyer, Maya Angelou, Louise Hay, Marianne Williamson…
What are you working on now?
I am embarking on a maiden voyage into FICTION! First time ever and I am in love with the early stages of character development, settings, dialogue….so excited!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have my Facebook pages (Author, Jodi Sykes & The House on Pancake Hill), I tweet, I promote on other author / book sites, and I have my two blogs!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
I am approached by so many people who “wish” they had time to write….my advice is, stop wishing and start WRITING!!! If you work a 9-5, get up an hour earlier (or go to be an hour later!). Set up “Me Time” and start slow…10-15 minutes will get you on the path, and once your writing becomes a “habit,” you’ll find ways to add more time in throughout your day! (lunch breaks, in the bathtub…)
Also, keep a notebook in your purse, nightstand, car, briefcase. Whenever you hear some rich dialogue, can start some character descriptions, add setting ideas, you are well on your way to gathering what you will need for your current or future projects!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t listen to naysayers…you do whatever it takes to follow your dreams!
What are you reading now?
The Weird Sisters
What’s next for you as a writer?
Dabbling with a fictional project!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Anything by Emerson, Thoreau, or any Hay House authors.
