Interview With Author John Williams
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi I’m John from the UK I’m ripe at 49 years old. I have written two short stories for children. I am in the middle of writing another about a fearless Caveboy. I have a sci-fi book in edit at the moment, and I’ve completed a rough draft of a supernatural horror book.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Canook the Fearless Caveboy – a short story for children. I was inspired by the imagery from the film Lord of the Flies.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I take my laptop to the kitchen to write. No internet, its warm, the table comfy and coffee is close. Often when I am writing I forget about my coffee, I’m so engrossed in writing, it’s cold by the time I remember.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Stephen King, William Golding, Peter F Hamilton, Andy Weir – for films I love the silent era, especially Chaplin
What are you working on now?
I am waiting for the return of Kasabian of Stronobos from the editor. Should be with me on the 17th of April, so I will be promoting that book soon!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Hard to say, I’m not good at marketing. But at the moment I am working on my own website, which gives me a base to work and promote from. I am with Bookfunnel at the moment which is working well.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep writing – that’s it, never stop to doubt yourself, just Keep Writing!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Never say to yourself do I have enough, always ask the person next to you if they have enough?
What are you reading now?
I am reading Ulysses by James Joyce
What’s next for you as a writer?
The next year I want to have finished my website and have developed as many titles as possible. So increase my portfolio.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Stephen King’s The Stand (unabridged), Peter F Hamilton’s Nights Dawn Triology, and How to Escape From a Desert Island, by Ibegan Swimman
