Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Not to get too deep but that question – who are you – is one I’ll be asking right up to the end. I guess I should start with that which is most important to me – my kids. First and foremost, I’m a mom. Also still learning how to be good at it even though my two are reasonably well-adjusted new adults.
I’ve been writing for most of my life, which is the second most important thing I do. Some days it’s easy. Other days, not so much. I’ve written 10 books so far with more on the way.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Aiden’s War, the first of a new fantasy adventure series, currently in the final stages of editing. I like writing stories about good people standing up in the face of adversity. Aiden’s War has that theme. The story is also inspired by the importance of family and the varied and intricate ties that bind us to those closest to us, who may or may not be related by blood.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I ‘walk write’ on a fairly regular basis. Don’t do this where there could be traffic involved.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Way too many to list, but top of the list – J.R.R. Tolkien, of course. Roger Zelazny, M.K. Wren, Mary Stewart, Weis & Hickman, Terry Brooks. More recently Sarah Woodbury and Cheryl Bradshaw.
What are you working on now?
The aforementioned Aiden’s War, which is looking like a 4 book series, along with another book I can’t quite talk about yet.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
The best method of book promotion is to write the next book and then tell people about it and then write the next book…
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Find a good group of authors who have been at this a few years and pick their brains. Learn to accept constructive criticism. Set goals. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Keep writing.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Treat others as you would like to be treated.
What are you reading now?
I just started reading a book by a lady who is 95 about her life lessons and how to best handle the process of aging. The book isn’t published yet, so I’m unable to share the title yet, but it’s a fascinating story.
What’s next for you as a writer?
More writing. I’m developing other creative outlets like drawing and digital art creation that are just for fun and help stoke the imagination.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I’d bring a digital reading device with a solar powered charger so I wouldn’t have to make such a horrific decision!
