Interview With Author Joseph Love
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am 87, and have written my first novel. Will I write more? Of course!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The novel–a saga, really–is titled “HOMELAND.” Four years ago, I was inspired to write about artificial intelligence from a somewhat different perspective, i.e., the production of and population parity of near-perfect, human-like androids who are benign, as opposed to the “Terminator” stereotypes. I have been gratified to see this notion come to the fore by such notables as Elon Musk.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Like most writers, I write in solitude and usually in a rather sloppy state of surroundings.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Oh, I go way back to Isaac Asimov, Arthur C, Clarke, but I also have a great appreciation for authors like Stephen King. Of the newer lot, I enjoy Martha Wells and Ted Chiang. One cannot read them all, of course. When then could one write?
What are you working on now?
I’m writing the sequel to HOMELAND, a story focusing on one of the characters from the book–Tigran. She is a exo-biological androgenous creature.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
So far, I am making use of just about every outlet, including doing writer’s showcases wherever and whenever I can get to them.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Stay with it and don’t wait until you’re 80 to get started.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Rewrite.
What are you reading now?
At the moment, nothing.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Oh, please. I take one day at a time these days.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I Robot, The Murderbot Diaries, The Stand
