Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve worked most of my professional life as an artist. I’ve storyboarded for films and plenty of commercials. I’ve also worked a lot as an illustrator and sculptor and even had a short stint in special fx. When I had downtime at home, I would always come up with stories and write for myself. I have only just put out my first book, Gretta Knows.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My first (and latest) book is titled Gretta Knows. I’ve been toying with the idea of writing for some time now and have ideas for many books in my notebooks all over my office. But what really got me moving was my son. Since we had him, I’ve really wanted to knuckle down and get writing. He’s my great inspiration.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really unusual I guess. I like to listen to 80’s music, classical and soundtracks while drinking copious amounts of coffee and looking out my window at my garden.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
If we just go with children’s books, probably Dr. Seuss. That’s who I remember fondly from my childhood. My son reads everything and everyone. He already has a growing bookshelf overflowing with stories.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on my second children’s books that deals with numbers. I’m going to try and have it as a free book. Then it’s on to the third and so on.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m still learning this. It’s all new to me. I’m trying to use twitter and Facebook as well as grow an email list. Besides that, Awesomegang is pretty cool.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t give up! I thought I would have this first book done over a year ago. I mean, it’s just a children’s book. How long could it take? Hahahaha! Setting everything up for the first time was a chore. But now, I’m hoping to be able to sit back and do more writing than coding.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“You should try this drink called coffee.” – jittery stranger
What are you reading now?
I’m listening to a lot of audiobooks recently. Sci fi mostly.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I would love to keep going with Fun Little Books! I want to have a whole shelf of books written someday!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Only 3 or 4??? Okay, fine. 1) How to build a boat using items from a desert island. 2) How to survive on a desert island. 3) Talking to a soccer ball on a desert island.
