Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I grew up anchoring a two time national award winning kids tv show called Kids TV Express, for over 10 years. I live in Houston and I love working with children! I have a movie-making studio for kids called Joy Kids! I have developed programs for kids the last 25 years, and I’m very passionate about it. I have two rescue dogs I’m madly in love with, Tinkerbell and Peter Pan! They are my big pals! I’m madly in love with my husband, Bruce. I love to chill at night with Netflix series and my dogs! Although I do try to get out and make new friends and share about my book. I love to travel.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Joy and the Far Away Land. I was one of 15 Americans chosen to perform in a play about Peace during the Cold War when I was a child. I was not able to go with my parents, but had to travel alone, and it was a little scary at first. Mostly because we had heard such scary stories about the Russian people. But the experience changed my life, and I made friends with a little boy named Sergey and through his eyes, I saw the world differently. I believe if we teach children to love one another when they are young and to take care of the planet, when they grow up they will make the world a better place. I want to build a trust and understanding among children of all nations. I know it’s a big goal… but what do I have to loose!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to drink COFFEE and I like to draw with markers, don’t think most illustrators do that.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
The Tipping Point, The Alchemist, Rich Dad Poor Dad, Dr. Seuss, Phillipa Gregory
What are you working on now?
The next book! A surprise! I’m planning to travel to Africa and will draw inspiration from the children there. I will be going to orphanages and sharing my story and book with them.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Get out there and share with everyone! Just start talking about what I’m up to… and listen to what they are up to! Look to inspire others, and I’ve gotten most of my book signings and events just doing that. I’ve traveled to a lot of schools just word of mouth. I also do things online and trying to get better on social media as well. I’m a people person!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Go for it! Don’t listen to your head. Write a little most everyday. Even if it’s 15 minutes. Be a little careful who you share it with at first, so you don’t get any hurt feelings. Sometimes people closest may not see us as the Authors we are destined to be! Believe in yourself, and what do you have to loose. Life is short, and only good things can come of it. Be smart about it.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Believe in my dreams! Reach for the Stars!
What are you reading now?
Rich Dad Poor Dad. I’m trying to get better at managing my money.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Create the next book!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Alchemist, The Bible, Joy and the Far Away Land!
