About JUGULAR VEIN by David Lasaine
Discrimination never dies. Catherine O’Sullivan (14 yrs. old) and her two sisters leave Ireland during the Great Potato Famine in 1848 to board a ship to come to America. Her sisters die on the now famous, Coffin Ships, and are tossed into the Atlantic.
She arrives in New York to witness a scene of such disgusting conditions she wanted to go back home.
A Madam acting sly offered her a ride to her home. The home turns out to be brothel. Catherine does not become a Prostitute as many young girls did, but is a doorchecker looking for genital disease on men.
One customer beats a 13 yr. old and the girl comes down the stairs crying. “Catherine, look what he done to me.” Catherine already bitter about her father’s death, leaving her mother, seeing her sisters die, goes upstairs to handle the matter.
“So, being a Senator gets me more than I paid for?”
Catherine biding her Irish temper crosses her arms below her chest.
“Come and take what you want.”
The drunken senator lunges for Catherine.
She sidesteps him like a lion, takes a Victorian metal brush handle and put it in his throat.
While on the floor gurgling in his blood she says, “Yes you get more than you paid for,” and spits on him.
She was beaten by the Madam, but did not flinch. From that point on, she was known as “Cat” the protector.
She was bought by a wealthy corrupt politician. She hated the wealthy for what they do.
Once living in his mansion, she makes a gruesome discovery. That was the tipping point for her.
She does meet a handsome doctor from England and they fall in love, and she becomes pregnant.
The local Constables are searching everywhere for the Jugular Vein Slasher.
Their hunting brings forth leads, and releases.
The end of the book is not as expected.
