Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a retired schoolteacher and ex local politician living in Sussex.
I have written seven novels and contributed to a number of anthologies.
I enjoy folk and jazz music and sometimes read poems at folk clubs.
I also give talks to the W.I.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Bend in the Lane is my most recent novel. This is the fourth story about a learning disabled man and his family. All my books are inspired by actual events and this one is written about a romance scam.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t think I am particularly unusual in my writing habits. I write in longhand in a notebook and then transfer it to the computer. I write in bed or on the dining room table. I do not have an office.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
My favourite author is Stephen King but I can’t write like him. I suppose the stories I read as a child have influenced me most.
What are you working on now?
I am putting together a poetry anthology with a friend who is a member of our writing group, The Sea Scribes.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have my own website, www.juliecround.co.uk and an extra one, www.juliecround.com which is connected to amazon. I promote at talks and to anyone and everyone I meet who shows an interest.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Get a beta reader or an editor. You need another pair of eyes before you publish.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Keep reading and writing.
What are you reading now?
Mobile Library by David Whiehouse
What’s next for you as a writer?
Short stories and competitions. We also do charity gigs where we mix readings with music.
