Interview With Author Karen Kay
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a Historical Romance Author or Native American Historical Romance. I’ve written twenty-nine (29) books, three under the pen name of Genny Cothern for the Young Adult genre.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
SHE BELONGS IN MY WORLD
My inspiration comes from true stories as told by the person who lived them in the long ago period of the 1800’s, Also,I was iinspired to write my newest series because of the parpnormal elements of the Native American cultures at this time in history.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. I work at my desk, but when I’m creatively writing, I listen to music. Each story has a different kind of music that inspires me.

James Willard Schultz; Joanna Redd; Cassie Edwards; L. Ron Hubbard; Frank B. Linderman, Thomas E. Malls, the book, BLACK ELK SPEAKS
What are you working on now?
I’m working on book #6 in the Medicine Man seris entitled IF SHE WERE MINE
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
There are so many, many good websites I go to in order to promote my books. Perhpas one of the bests is my newsletter.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write what inspires you and don’t worry about grammar or anything like that. Just write your story. The rest can be edited — but usually after you’ve told your story.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
There are many opinions about books and some are wonderful and some can be crushing. But, it’s best to, perhaps, ignore them all becaues they are, after all, only opinions. It’s your opinion and creativity that counts. Splurge on it.
What are you reading now?
I’m reading mostly research. But, my research includes wonderful true, adventure stories from the old west. My favorites are a series of books featuring Thomas Fox and Pitamakan as young adventurous boys in the wilds of Montana.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’ve started a series of Young Adult Stories featuring a teenage Blackfeet boy and a teenage girl named Starling, who has come to live with her Uncle Jed in Fort Benton.Self
