Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Kashavera. I love writing. I have written a few short stories. The biggest complaint I had was the stories were too short. So, I have listened and decided to give them a novel. I have written a book of poetry before. None of which are available right now. The books that’s available is my book of letters. I had a rough childhood and needed to release the pain and anger. I have decided to share it with the world.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Girls: Book 1 Brandon Returns.
This book was the first attempt I had at writing an actual novel. I thought I was going to just do short stories. I never thought I had the attention span to do it. The Girls is my favorite story that I have written because it really steps outside of the Kashavera box. I love writing this book so much that there’s at least two more books coming.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I get this creative energy that comes along and I can’t help but to write. I eat, sleep, dream, and talk writing. I love it. It’s a passion.
Before I started typing, I used to actually write in books. I could write on my bed, the sofa, and on the toilet. I know, ewe. lol Some of my poetry were writing as I was in the john. Sorry! I like to write when it’s dark and relaxed outside. It feels less like I am at work.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Jackie Collins (RIP beautiful). I was introduced to her work by a book called Dangerous Kiss. It was the most amazing experience for me. She cussed in her book. It blew me away. My poetry was very lollipop. No cussing. No deep serious in your face things. Everything was nice and sweet. Well…that changed when I read that book. She encouraged me to just be Kashavera. I can be sweet but I am also very real. I no longer hold back. I also read a book by Sista Soulja called The Coldest Winter Ever! I was influenced by the fact that she stayed true to her roots. If I must deliver a message, do it! Thank you ladies.
What are you working on now?
Book III technically I believe it’s Book IV. I am also working on a script for book 1. I have dreams and I want to introduce the world to my Girls in motion.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I thought Facebook and YouTube. I am still learning. I am opened to new ideas.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just be real. Don’t allow anyone to silence you. writing is a freedom and when you allow others to take that freedom from you, you stop being you. Your books stop being real. You won’t even recognize who you are in print and will hate your work. Another advice is, even in the negativity, there could be some helpful information. Have thick skin and don’t be so sensitive. Had it not been for me combing through all of the hate, I would have never tried to write a full novel. They asked for it. Now they got it!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“You are Lisa Simpson”
Alright, probably not what you were looking for but it resonated with me in a way that it made me feel some type of way. I am Kashavera. There’s nothing wrong with that. I love me. All of me. I feel people should feel the same about themselves.
What are you reading now?
My book. lol. Not being stuck up. I am just trying to get this done and out. I am going to read another Jackie Collins’ books. I am also going to purchase the next book in the Winter series. There’s a woman by the name of Chanel Fields. She wrote the book “The power of forgiveness.” I think I am ready for her book now.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Script writing and hopefully connecting with Lions Gate for my film. A girl could dream couldn’t she? ๐
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
My first novel, Power of Forgiveness, Any book by Jackie, and the next Sista Soulja Winter book.
