Interview With Author Kathy Giddins
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
When in Bologna is my debut novel. I’ve started writing other books but this is the first one I’ve managed to finish. The first novel I ever started writing was a fantasy about magical cats – I wrote the first few chapters aged 12.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
When in Bologna is inspired by my own travels and specifically the time I spent on a year abroad in Italy as part of my university studies (Modern Languages).
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t think so. But then I don’t talk to many other authors so maybe I’m a complete weirdo and have no idea?
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Bridget Jones Diary, Freya North and Jackie Collins are among my favourite romance writers.
What are you working on now?
My next project which is just an idea at the moment is going to be a fantasy incorporating magic, romance, robin hood and possibly time travel.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Amazon. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0DCFN1G69?ref_=pe_93986420_774957520&fbclid=IwY2xjawEgNsFleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHfmqREzNmFPZ6L4BoKfhKcHunbNcEejCiirRUPMsBi_abCF_ZrjWxLedLg_aem_5w4ceNO-EtyIgfjUSvWbOg
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just keep going. My mantra is done is better than perfect. I would never have finished my first book if I was holding out for perfection. And self publishing is a great route if you find yourself getting rejected by traditional publishers.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Done is better than perfect.
What are you reading now?
The witch’s sacrifice by K.C Adams. The fourth in the afterlife calls series. The author lives locally and it’s set in the town where I live which is pretty cool.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Getting ideas on paper and research underway for my next novel.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Girl with the Glass feet by Ali Smith. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern and Emma by Jane Austen.
