Interview With Author Ken Coulson
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My debut Wall Street Climate Fiction Thriller, The Arsonist, was published in March 2024. I’m a multi-instrumentalist musician, climate activist and former Wall Street trader. I write fiction and on mindfulness, meditation, and music to turbocharge life at KenCoulson.com
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Arsonist is a semi-autobiographical corporate thriller that is a fusion of Wolf of Wall Street and Grisham’s The Firm. It is also a core tale of humanity and our common quest for redemption in the face of power, greed, and lust. The Arsonist was inspired by my life on Wall Street and the collision between power and existential crisis, my own awakening, and journey towards self-growth, acceptance, and purpose.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. I take a lot of voice memos and notes. When I’m writing, I’ll wake up at odd hours with a scene and have to write it down.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I am inspired by a fusion of art and music from the classics of Jules Verne, Oscar Wilde, and Kerouac to the likes of Nelson DeMille. You can find the wisdom of musicians like Jerry Garcia and Victor Wooten embedded in my stories.
What are you working on now?
The sequel to The Arsonist, The Bombmaker’s Apprentice and two projects on how music, mindfulness, and movement can turbocharge life, one for adults and one for kids. The latter was inspired by my two young boys, 1 and 4, who I write the music with.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Always consider yourself new, dig deep into the emotional motivation of why you do what you do. Laugh, cry, and scream with and through your writing.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
All you are is what you leave.
What are you reading now?
Nelson DeMille’s The Charm School
What’s next for you as a writer?
I have a 4-episodes of a storycast continuing the life of the main character in The Arsonist, Cal Minor, that I hope to edit down and release. Making progress on the sequel and making music for the launch of Creative Kids Flow.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Jules Verne’s The Mysterious Island, duh! Victor Wooten’s The Music Lesson and something by the Buddhist Monk Thich.
