Interview With Author ken dube
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a fiction writer focusing mostly on the inner visions of the mind. I have a Trilogy that focuses on the inner creative world turn against the Author – “Edge of Obscurity” which started it all. My second book, “Utopia: The Futures Past” is a dystopian work mirroring the very issues of today in a future Utopian civilization consisting of a species that has evolved to the top. My last book is “A Collection of Dreams & Nightmares” consisting of short fiction stories that influenced the books that came before it.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My last book is “A Collection of Dreams & Nightmares” consisting of short fiction stories that influenced the books that came before it. The stories are a mix of horror, humor, and commentary on human nature. The inspiration for these came primarily from movies and books I’d absorbed.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to write to music. The music helps me to visualize and focus. Biggest influences are Yes, Hawkwind, Genesis, Queensryche, and Pink Floyd to name a few.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Stephen King was probably my biggest influence. His take on horror and vague dark forces interested me. My favorite was “The Shining.” It was also one of his thinner books. That is the direction I went with my writing.
What are you working on now?
I am considering developing a story based on the jester from the band “Marrillion.” It is a tragic jester who I had started to develop a story from 2 points of view looking at his yearning for a love and his apparent murder of that love.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Most of my promotions have gone through Amazon.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t sweat the details or worrying about getting it perfect while writing. Just get your ideas down and shape them afterwards. Don’t worry if anyone will like it. Get your story out there. You may be the influence for people 100 years later. One person impacted by your writing is worth it.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just write.
What are you reading now?
I am between books.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Continue to find time to market my books and develop the next one.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Foundation
The Shining
Edge of Obscurity Trilogy
