Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
In all I’ve published around forty books, the first twenty-odd were written for children. My last five books have been novels, two written under a pen name.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
ANN irresistible spirit. I like writing romantic fiction and getting to know the characters as they come to life in my head.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes, write very quickly after thinking in great detail about what I’m going to say. To me fiction writing is like describing a film that’s happening in your head.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Chiefly 19th century novelists and poets, French and English.
What are you working on now?
My next novel, probably entitled WASTED PAIN should be finished by the end of February. Another romantic story about a homeless girl in n American city.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Use many.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write your first million/ two million words then burn them. Then you’ll have some good work when you start again.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
From Percy Shelley, ‘Nothing should move a truly great spirit which is not sufficiently mighty to destroy it.’
What are you reading now?
Haven’t time for much reading. Writing is more important.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Keep turning them out.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
L’assommoir by Zola. Shelley’s poems. Keats’ poems. And maybe Wilfred Owen’s poems.
