Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a dog lover currently living in California. After rediscovering how much I like writing, I wrote and self-published my first book earlier this year.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My last book is currently my only book and it’s called “Simpler Photo”.
This book was one of those that had been sitting in my head for a while and finally I just sat down and cranked it out.
My goal with the book was to create a short guide on digital photography for people who are either intimidated by the prospect of diving into the (typically) long photography books or who are put off by the technical aspects of the art.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Nope, I’m actually pretty boring. I start my writing in the morning right after breakfast and then continue until I either reach my target word count or have completed a section.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Pretty much everything I’ve read, to be honest. I know that may not seem helpful, but, as many authors do, I read *a lot*. And I think every single book influences me in some way. Reading many different types of books and genres helps me figure out what I personally like to read and what I’d like to see exist in the world (and what I wouldn’t).
What are you working on now?
I’m working on a memoir about Hawaii.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
If there’s a book you really want to write, set a target date (like your birthday – that’s what I did) that you need to have your book finished by. This deadline really helps you get your ass into gear.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
If someone’s advice doesn’t resonate, do what works for you.
What are you reading now?
“The Comedians” by Graham Greene.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Continuing to work on and learn about the craft and start the next book. 🙂
