Interview With Author Kim VanDolah
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hello, I am a Christian wife, mom of 6, budding Author, and dedicated Lifestyle Coach. I inspire a Return to Simple in others—by making simple yet powerful shifts in how we eat, live, and connect—we can reclaim our wellness stories & cultivate a life filled with hope, peace, and true nourishment.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My book is called Return to Simple: A Journey of Hope and Truth. On my journey, I’ve been blessed to walk alongside Amish and True-Hearted individuals—witnessing the incredible transformation that happens when we return to what’s real, natural, and good for us.
After my first conversation with Ruth, an Amish woman, I realized the need for a simple, yet practical resource to share my message of hope and truth. This realization became the spark that inspired the book.
Ultimately, Return to Simple is about coming home—to ourselves, to the natural world around us, and most importantly, to our Creator, where we find lasting peace, joy, and fulfillment—it is meant to be shared!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I love to be grounded in nature. I do this first before sitting and typing, or in the early stages of writing, I sit in the grass and write the old-fashioned way. After my first call with Ruth, I sat out in the green of our homestead and wrote up the outline in 20 minutes. It was amazing to see that this inspired book was already in my head!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Many on a wide range of topics. On the Simple Food side, I have learned much from: Eat Like a Human by Dr. Bill Schindler, The Big Fat Surprise, by Nina Teicholz, and Benjamin Bickman’s , Why We Get Sick.
What are you working on now?
Spreading this message of hope and truth to true-hearted and Amish individuals and families. We are so in need of a shift in the direction of our health, wholeness, and freedom—my mission is to share and support others in making shifts in their lifestyle to reclaim their stewardship role and live the life God created them for.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Email List, Facebook, Amazon, word of mouth, For Amish—reaching out the old fashioned way with a phone call or letter.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Persevere. Often, things take longer than you anticipate. Let go of too high expectations and enjoy the journey—the adventure of the day in and out of life as a budding author!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
You don’t have to be all and do all. Live a well-ordered life. Discover what is most important.
What are you reading now?
The Bible & Man’s Search for Meaning, Viktor E. Frankl
What’s next for you as a writer?
I will likely continue with a series of Return to Simple, but more specific for homeschoolers & homesteaders. I have more adventures to live out and write about, that is for sure!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible
