Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I live with my husband and four children in southern Utah where I grew up riding horses through the red sand. It gave me an appreciation for the rugged western landscape and a desire to explore every inch of it. We had two boys and two girls (including a set of twins!) within four years, so they are all best friends and keep us running. Being a wife and mother is my greatest joy, and I love hearing their little voices every day.
I write sweet historical romance because, well, history fascinates me – especially the wild stories involving the American westward expansion. I’m new to this world of writing books. I have two published so far, with two more releases planned this year (2019).
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
History fascinates me. In virtually every account I read of the westward expansion and the sacrifice it took to manage it, I think to myself that what these people went through is more fantastic than anything I could dream up. When a particular place or event snags my attention, I wonder what it may have been like to be there, and a book idea is born.
My current work-in-progress is the Heart of a Miner series. It’s focused around one or more characters who mine, though not all of them will be in the Owyhee mountains and Silver City, Idaho. I visited Silver City two summers ago and was completely taken with the history. It’s a ghost town, but there are still 75 structures standing, including the Idaho Hotel which was built in the 1860s. It’s still open to visitors in the summer months, and many of the original features are intact, such as the wallpaper, oil lamps, and wooden floors. Walking those streets, I could imagine the noise, the bustle, the hunger for wealth. I tried to capture that in the series.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Nah. I’m pretty plain-Jane when it comes to that.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
So many. I really admire Caroline Fyffe, Christopher Paolini, Sarah M. Eden, and Jennifer Moore. There are plenty of others.
What are you working on now?
I’ve committed to participating in my first collaborative writing project, so I’m writing a story to contribute to a 13-author Western box set releasing in July – and I’m so excited about it! I’ve also begun brainstorming for book three in the Heart of a Miner series.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I participate in several facebook groups and try to get to know readers that way.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Not yet… I’m still learning the ropes!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t get hung up on bad reviews.
What are you reading now?
Caroline Fyffe’s Colorado Hearts series. Love it!
What’s next for you as a writer?
I plan to be here for the long term, so I’m really just working to put stories to paper and create awareness.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
My scriptures, the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini… and Seeking Persephone by Sarah M. Eden.
