Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I currently have four books published. However, I’ve written many more under pen names during my career.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My most recent book is “Star Runners: Scorpions.” The book was inspired by the movie “Top Gun” and my earliest daydreams as a child desiring to be a part of an elite fighter squadron.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know if it’s unusual but I’m extremely motivated by music. Sometimes a song will inspire a scene. While I’m writing it, I place the song on repeat until I’m finished. It’s always an incredible experience when that happens to me.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
So, so many! In recent years, I’d say Claudia Gray, Cormac McCarthy, J.F. Penn, Stephen King, Jeff Shaara, Mark Bowden, Dan Hampton, Shelby Foote and Timothy Zahn. I could probably go on, but I’ll leave it at this incredibly talented group.
What are you working on now?
I am readying the fifth book in the Star Runners Universe for publication.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Besides Twitter and Facebook, I tend to have the most success with AskDavid.com and Bargain Books. However, I try new things everyday.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t ever give up. If you really dream of writing, do it every day and know this is a long journey. Never lose the love of telling a good story because everyone in the world (or at least it feels like it) is going to tell you that you can’t do this. Prove them wrong.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Never explain and don’t complain” and “Always tell the truth and then you never have to remember anything.”
What are you reading now?
Lords of the Sky by Dan Hampton and Rise to Rebellion by Jeff Shaara as well as a few books on my iPod.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I would like to finish up the first series of books in the Star Runners Universe.
